Book Promo: Excerpt & Review! Promise Me Once, Promise Me #3 by Paige Weaver

  PMO social media pic
goodreads

Once with him was never enough. I am the girl you dislike. The girl you snub at parties. I am the one who flirts with men and knows no boundaries. I am the one you whisper about. The one who has no rules. I am the one who takes and uses without any regret or excuses. On the outside I am perfect. I have money, looks, and a personality that makes people stand up and take notice, but on the inside I am broken and hurting. Then I met Cash Marshall. He wasn’t what I needed, but I wanted him anyway. It was Cash’s carved, muscular body I thought about. It was his cool, confident touch I craved. I swore he would only be a one-night stand, another distraction to take away the pain. But then our world changed. Our story is not about love. Love is pretty and sweet and full of niceties. Those no longer exist. Our story is about finding each other again in a world gone crazy. It’s about surviving the impossible when war ravaged our land. It’s about saving each other from the darkness and finding out just how strong we could be. And maybe, just maybe, along the way, we’ll find love… Once and for all.

   Promise Me Once Teaser 31

I pulled my arms from his shoulder, untangling myself from him. His eyes were gray pools of emotions as he looked at me, maybe seeing me for what I really was.

A girl that had sex on the first date and in a public restroom.

I had never felt shame before but I did just then. I avoided his eyes and pulled away from him. He let me go, easing out of me gently. I suddenly missed him in me. The thought was terrifying. It was something I had never thought of before when I was with a man. So why now and why him?

He kept his gaze on me as he lifted me off the counter and pulled my dress down. I wanted to cry at his tenderness and beg for it to disappear. I couldn’t handle it. I could barely handle the man that had walked in here - controlling, domineering, and seductive as hell.

I averted my eyes as he removed the condom and threw it in the trash then zipped up his jeans. I had never been embarrassed by such an intimate act but something about Cash doing it affected me. For the first time in my pitiful life, I was embarrassed for the girl I was.

Cash picked my panties up from the floor and offered them to me. I reached for them, still refusing to look at him, but the domineering man wasn’t gone yet.

He grasped my wrist, not allowing me to take the panties from him.

I raised my eyes to his. He gritted his teeth and took a step toward me, trapping me between him and the counter again. His body brushed against mine, making the need he had just extinguish minutes ago flare to life again.

He slid his hand around my nape, drawing me toward him one more time.

“Jesus, Cat,” he whispered, lowering his head and touching his lips to mine.

I stood still as he kissed me, wondering what the hell he thought he was doing. We fucked. It was supposed to be over now. A wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am kind of date. But I was afraid we were far from done.

His mouth was gentle. Tender. I felt worshiped when minutes ago I felt claimed. He kissed me like he cared. Like I was his.

Not just his for tonight.

Too soon his lips left mine and he let go of me, taking one step back.

“Come have dinner with me,” he said in a voice that oozed sex but promised he would be nice. “Please.”

Two years! This is how long I’ve been waiting for this book. And it’s finally here!!

The story starts before the war, before the world as we know it came to an end.

Catarina is spoiled, rich, beautiful but also damaged. She can have any man she wants and she knows that.

She’s not interested in relationships, her motto being bag them and leave them.

Then, she meets this one guy…

Cash is a sexy cowboy who works hard and takes care of his farm.

Here, we get to see another side of him, we get to know how he was BEFORE.

And he was so different but such an event can change anyone. The chemistry between him and Catarina is strong but, before they can discover what they could have, everything goes haywire.

I loved this series from the beginning.

Promise Me is one of those stories that gets under your skin and makes you stop and think.

Catarina and Cash will have to learn to survive in a world where there’s only darkness and where no one is safe, they’ll have to take care of their families and maybe, one day, they’ll find their way back to each other.

In Promise Me Darkness & Promise Me Light we meet a cold, calculating, lethal Cash and in Promise Me Once you’ll find out what made him turn into that kind of person.

His journey, just like everyone else’s, hasn’t been easy and he’s done and seen a lot of things.

All in all, I can say that I loved this book. Paige sure knows how to tell a story and how to create fascinating characters.

Promise Me is one of the best series I’ve read and it can be counted among the firsts on my favorites list.

If you want something different, something where the world is not perfect and the characters have to worry about something else than what they’re going to wear the next day, this is the book, the series for you.

You won’t regret giving it an opportunity.

I highly recommend it.

Happy Reading!!

“It’s just how I remember it,” he remarks. “Except I’m … considerably less hungry.”
“Side effect,” I jest.
“Being alive is so inconvenient.”
“So very.”

I get up from the table, deciding to go to the sink. I can wash my hands six or seven more times, they won’t feel any more clean, not after what I’ve done. “Winter.” I stop halfway past the kitchenette, turn to look back at him. He’s still watching me. His brown eyes show fiercely, even from across the room. After a very long pause, I respond. “Yes, John?” “I’m alive because of you.” I press my lips together. I’m not sure what his angle is, what he’s getting at. Even the way he says it, it sounds half an accusation. As though my helping him to survive were yet another bad thing I’ve done. Shame on me. “Okay,” I say back curtly, needing to hear where he’s going with this. He looks away. I can tell he’s troubled, but I can’t stand waiting for him to speak. “Is there … something I’m supposed to be saying?” His face is pale and stern, his eyes not able to rest on anything in the room. “There are demons in me, Winter. Demons. Bad, bad demons that I can’t get rid of.” He crosses the room, which is startling because he’s suddenly very close to me. Next to the table now, he starts picking at the wood, pensive, staring down at it. “They don’t let me sleep. They’ve made me … awful.” Is this an apology? “We all have demons.” “But yours are a lifetime ago. Literally.” He chuckles without a smile, empty and feeble. “Winter, what I’m trying to say is …” He looks up finally. The effect his eyes have when they burrow into mine is staggering. Those Living earthen orbs of light in his face, they smolder. John and his wet, totally-alive, tear-capable eyes. “Yeah?” I encourage him. He takes another step closer to me. I resist an urge to back away, resist another urge to press into his solid, inviting body. “Please don’t mistake my demons for hate. Winter, you’ve shown me so much care … You’ve given me a home … You risked everything. I’ll never be able to repay you, ever. In ten lifetimes. I don’t hate you.” So many words are caught in my throat suddenly. The only one that escapes is: “Okay.”

Book Blitz! The Dead Day Journal, Volume 1 by Sandra Campbell

The daughter of a radical doomsday prepper, Leo Marrok spent her entire life preparing for the end. A skilled fighter and perfect marksman, Leo is her father’s second-in-command when Armageddon comes to pass. Together, they lead a group of survivors to a secure bunker deep in the Appalachian Mountains.

Vincent Marrok is willing to take extreme measures to repopulate their broken world. Leo’s refusal marks her as a traitor. With father and daughter at odds for the first time, their frail community is thrust into turmoil. Until the unthinkable happens, a blood-thirsty horde arrives. The impending attack will destroy all that they have worked for.

To protect her home and everything she believes in, Leo puts her faith in the arms of the enemy—a creature only rumored to exist—the one she calls Halloween. An alliance born out of necessity evolves into feelings Leo is ill-equipped to handle.

The Dead Days Journal is a post-apocalyptic story of love and family told through Leo Marrok’s first-hand account and the pages of Vincent’s personal journal, giving two very different perspectives on what it takes to survive.

Mature themes, adult language, sexual situations, violence and gore. 18+

Ben watched as I finished getting dressed, his eyes glistening in the dark. “I’m so sorry. Please don’t go, Leo.” His whispered pleas were growing louder. I knew he was sorry, just as I knew it wasn’t his fault. Eventually this was going to happen. I had known it. How could we continue to be together and not be together? He couldn’t. I couldn’t.

“Stop saying you’re sorry.”

When I stood to go, Ben grabbed my arm. I didn’t pull away but just looked at him with a horrible sadness ripping through my heart. “Let go.”

Ben released his grip as a single tear escaped his eye and fell. “I love you.”

Not only did I not say it, I never even looked back. I simply walked away. But my emotions wouldn’t let me stay quiet for long. As soon as I exited the back door, I ran through the cave opening into the early dawn and down to the spring-fed river. Not bothering to take off my mother’s treasured dress, I plunged into the icy-cold river and screamed through the pain under the water.

I tried to ignore the throbbing ache in my extremities and swam to the middle where I couldn’t touch bottom and the current was strong. I floated on my back and let the river take me away. Above me, the pink hues of dawn were brightening, and I watched the brilliant night stars dissolve into nothing. If only for a short time, I wished to feel nothing, to be nothing. At least now my hands and feet had completely disappeared.

“Leo! What are you doing?” I didn’t have to look to know it was Lincoln. I recognized the high-pitched squealing and swam toward shore.

Damn, kid, what are you doing outside alone at this hour?

Once I started to move again, my arms and legs were no longer unfeeling. My blood was moving as I waded back to shore. Sharp piercing stabs replaced the numb ache.

“Why are you outside alone?”

A cool morning breeze raised fresh goose bumps. Chilled straight through to the bone, my teeth chattered like a tightly-wound plastic toy.

“I had a bad dream and you weren’t in bed.” Lincoln pulled a brown plaid scarf from around his neck and handed it to me. The scarf wasn’t much, but it was enough to get a spot or two dry.

“Come on. I’ll race you inside and you can tell me all about it.”

Lincoln didn’t move. He stood there staring past me. I turned around to see Jack crouched on the opposite side of the river. His black hair was shiny wet, as was the rest of his nude, hard-coiled body. Another chill ran through me that had nothing to do with the cold. Jack’s eyes narrowed to dark slits as he watched me take hold of my brother’s pale hand to lead him away from the riverbank. “Come on. Let’s run together.”
