If… Someone hadn't scarred my face. I hadn’t followed my dreams to LA. That tweaker hadn't attacked that homeless guy. I hadn't invited a stranger over for Thanksgiving. I hadn’t fallen in love. If I hadn’t lost him. ------ If… I hadn’t gone for that drive. I saw the world like everyone else. My “genius” wasn’t slowly destroying me. I had just walked away before I could ever know her. She hadn’t ignited the spark. If the spark didn’t ignite the madness.

“Let’s start with something simple. How about a tree, in the fall, so you can play with color?”

She smiled. “That sounds perfect.”

“Okay, we’re going to use acrylic because if you make a mistake, you can paint over it as soon as it dries.”

“Oh ye of little faith,” she said, coming over to stand in front of me at the easel. She was so close, I could feel her warmth even though we weren’t touching. The pale glow that surrounded her now grazed me.

I squeezed out green and white and showed her how to mix for the right shade. Then I told her to lay down short, staccato thrusts, but her swipes were, frankly, juvenile and clunky.

“No, see, you are trying to draw the tree. You just need to focus on the leaf, and then pull that back to how the light hits the leaf because a leaf, even a leaf that you just see as green, is many shades of green.”

“And this is why I’m a dancer,” Bird said.

“Here,” I said, grabbing some of the brush handle from behind, “let me guide you.” It was a mistake. Her lavender scent grew strong, and I could smell her fruity shampoo on top of it, and the curves of her behind pressed against my pelvis. The heat rolled down my neck, and to my fingertips. Even though I was touching wood, I felt the warmth of the coziest blanket rubbing against them.

“Okay,” she said in barely a whisper. Her voice moved in transparent cerulean and seafoam wavelengths in my line of sight.

I slid my hands up the edge of the brush, so my hand was over her delicate hand. And shit, I am only a man and I just wanted her so bad. But, I focused on the empty sheet on the easel.

“So you start soft, tentative, until you find a rhythm.” My words were barely a breeze against her ear. “Just relax.” I gently guided her hand and she let me take over. I used the hand of my muse to fill the canvas with strokes of green. “This will be the foundation, but soon we’ll fill it with browns and oranges, even pinks.”

“We? You’re doing all the work, but I like it that way,” she said, almost woozily, as if she were in the same trance as me. She leaned back, resting her head against the front of my shoulder. My heart thudded so hard, I was afraid she would be able to feel it. I guided her hand to a cup of water and she dropped the brush. But I didn’t let go. I didn’t want to let go, and I don’t think she wanted me to either.

“Let’s come back to this, we can work on it a little each day,” she said, turning her palm up so she could thread her fingers into mine. The heat was everywhere, like a warm rush of water, lulling me to do whatever the hell she wanted.

“Now, I show you how to dance.” She turned, using my hand, and then she was facing me. Her skin radiated through tiny freckles on her cheeks and nose.

The next song on the album played. “I love this song,” Bird said, pulling me to the open floor in front of the record player as “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” began to play.

“There’s only one way to dance to a song like this,” she said, stepping in close, guiding my hands to her waist, as she wrapped hers around my neck.

There was too much. A kaleidoscope of lilting colors, the strong scent of lavender, a sweet taste like nectar, the blooming warmth rushing through my body.

I am only a man.

Every nightmare has an end.

There’s no way Nora can ignore the beating. Same heavy boots. Same curses, same pained groans. But that was two years ago, and this a different man, a different part of war-ravaged Sarajevo. This is her second chance. She has to try.

And then she’s stuck with him, nursing him, putting up with him. Declan’s an ass. He’s rude and tactless. He’s arrogant. Dismissive.

Charming. Intense. Caring when she needs it most – and least expects it. He tears away the numbing fog that’s been her constant companion and offers her a way out and a way home.

And it damn near destroys her.

Nora’s survived two years in a war zone. Can Declan show her how to live?

If she’s not writing, she’s reading, drinking hot chocolate, and trying not to destroy her house with her newest DIY project. She lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and no, it really doesn’t rain that much.

Happy Release Day! Tears of Crimson by Michelle Hughes

Genre- Paranormal Romance

Tears of Crimson, the New Orleans Vampire Bar.

I was only fifteen the first time he found me. I say he found me because I hadn't been looking for him... yet there he was when I closed my eyes. When my mother was declared insane, the only person I had left in the world was Granny Louise. Even though she was good to me, I was a target for bullies, ones that were convinced that the apple never fell far from the tree. I was tired of my life, tired of a world that fostered such heartache and pain.

Rafe changed things.

He salvaged what was left of my will to live. Those six years became my lifeline. He opened my eyes to passion, shared a world with me that was so vivid that I could still hear his words in my ears, and the ghost of his touch on my skin when I woke up.

Now that my world has seemingly fallen apart, the only place I can think of going is where my dreams took place- New Orleans. Rafe and I have walked those streets in my fantasies. Somehow, I feel like that's where I can find my salvation, my purpose.

What frightens me is, now that I've stepped in Tears of Crimson, a part of me is starting to believe that some dreams are meant to be lived.

Joseph Fallen

First of all let me give you a warning.

This is not a book that has a happy ending. I’m not sure I can even put it in the Dark Romance category because what you’ll find here is in no way, shape or form romantic.

Joseph Fallen is a twisted story of a brilliant man who loses everything he once held dear for the love of money and power.

He’s a genius, madly in love with his oh so beautiful wife Arianna, the woman he wants to give everything to.

He craves power more than anything else and he’s ready to do anything to get it.

When the opportunity arises, he grabs it and that’s the moment when everything changes.

His values, his integrity, his love for his wife, their quiet happiness don’t matter anymore. Or at least not in the way they should.

I don’t even know what to say, how to describe their story. One moment he’s trying really hard to create a better life for themselves and the next he’s this dark, twisted creature who’s consumed and controlled by his desire to have more and more.

The Estate turns from a dream into a prison for both Joseph and Arianna but in different ways and what happens behind it’s walls is a nightmare no one can ever imagine.

I have read Dark Romance before, even if here you won’t find such things as romance, but this one messed me up big time. I don’t know what I was expecting but it sure as hell wasn’t what I’ve got.

It’s been more than a year and some things are burnt into my memory even now.

I do not have a rating for the story itself. I just can’t. I have no idea how to rate something like that.

I’ll tell you what I’m going to rate. The writing style. It’s brilliant. The author is incredibly talented and she managed to keep me glued to my chair unable to put the book down even if it burned my soul and made me want to curl into a tiny ball until it all went away.

I have to grant her this, she created a masterpiece that will leave you scarred forever and she’s done it with so much skill that it will grab you from the very first pages and keep a hold on you until the very end, destroying your mental sanity in the process.

Bravo, M.S. Willis!

I usually end my reviews with the phrase “Happy Reading” but I won’t do that today. I’ll sign off by telling you that if you love the Dark genre and you think you can handle something like I just described, this is the book for you. If your psyche can’t handle abuse in any shape or form, then stay as far away as possible. This is not the book for someone who wants to try Dark Romance for the first time.

Captive in the Dark

This book.
Do you even know how many times I picked it up, read a few passages and then gave up on it? Yeah, neither do I. Too many to count. And not because it’s poorly written or something like that. No.

The thing that is so damn good and you love it, even when you imagine the worst possible way to torture the male character while reading and, trust me, he brought out my sadistic side like no one else ever has.

I am writing this review after I read Seduced in the Dark also and I know how the story ends but it doesn’t change a damn thing.

Caleb is a sadistic, heartless creature trained to obey. I feel pity for the child he’s been but the man he has become has no excuse.

He’s cruel and hell bent on revenge and the reason doesn’t excuse the means. Not in this case.

Olivia. Let’s just say that she’s stronger than I would have been. Hell, she’s stronger than anyone would have been in her situation.

She fights Caleb every step of the way and she refuses to break even if that means more pain for her. She didn’t have a normal childhood either and maybe the hurt, twisted creature inside her is able to feel it’s mate in her torturer.

There is no romance here. Nothing to make everything easier to digest. Captive in the Dark it’s about a girl being at the mercy of a man who intends to break her and humiliate her for his own purposes.

If you’re not okay with this, then stay away. This is not the book for you nor is it an easy read.

Another thing that’s impressive is the writing. Dark Duets was C.J.’s debut as an author and she did a wonderful job. The Dark genre it’s not easy to write, especially for a beginner, but she did it and created a story that will capture your heart and your mind and bring you into a world where pain is the key word and a woman is only an object to be used at will by those who have a twisted mind and even more twisted desires.

My advice for you is to hang on and read until the end. I promise, you won’t be disappointed and the next installment will be even better. Trust me.

It will all be worth it in the end.

Happy Reading!!

The decision has more repercussions than Drew could ever imagine when the dark and sensual Ash Davis volunteers to help.

Although Drew isn’t gay, Ash is inexplicably drawn to him. He vows to simply bed him and forget him like he's done with every other man. However, Drew's sweet and caring nature and unexpected passion both stun and frighten Ash, who questions his right to any happiness at all. And when Ash befriends an abused young man who unwittingly draws the clinic into danger, threatening Drew’s safety and that of his beloved grandmother, Ash discovers that there is nothing he won’t sacrifice to protect the love he never thought he’d find.

I have always been a romantic at heart. I believe that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending just around the corner. I started reading traditional historical romances when I was a teenager, then life and law school got in the way. It wasn’t until I picked up a copy of Bertrice Small and became swept away to Queen Elizabeth’s court that my interest in romance novels became renewed.

But somewhere along the way, my tastes shifted. While I still enjoys a juicy Historical romance, I began experimenting with newer, more cutting edge genres and discovered the world of Male/Male romance. Once I picked up her first, I became so enamored of the authors, the character-driven stories and the overwhelming emotion of the books, I knew I wanted to write my own.

I live in New York City with my husband and two children and hopefully soon a cat of my own. My day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass or two of red wine. I practice law but daydream of a time when I can sit by a beach somewhere and write beautiful stories of men falling in love. Although there is bound to be angst along the way, a Happily Ever After is always guaranteed.
