Diana's Reviews! Finding Nathan, The Love Lies Bleeding Series #2 by H.J. Harley

BRAND NEW CONTENT

The long-awaited honeymoon is over for leading man Nathan Harper and his feisty bride, Jordie. As they settle into their new home, Nathan feels confident enough with this fresh start to share with his wife the struggles of rediscovering himself. Now more than ever Jordie needs to be strong when Nathan gives her his journal and lets her see the darkest months of her life through his eyes. Will what he remembers make her wish she could forget?

Finding Nathan, the second book in The Love Lies Bleeding Series is more like an epilogue to the first one. The story picks up after Jordan and Nathan’s wedding. After they return from their honeymoon, they have to adjust to their new life as a family.

With the birth of little Nathan, their second child, things begin to finally go back to normal. This is when Nathan decides to show Jordie the journal he kept while he struggled with his memory loss.

What Jordan doesn’t expect is her insecurities to emerge more and more with every page she reads but I liked very much her character because she is strong and determined and because she fights for those she loves.

The writing style was good and there’s plenty of humor and funny situations that will keep you entertained throughout the book, besides the other characters who play an important role in the story. However, I didn’t like the fact that the author chose to focus only on the relationship between Jordan and Nathan and not on how they evolve as a family with two kids. I really would have liked to see the parent side of them more often.

All in all, I think those who have enjoyed reading Finding Jordie will love this book, mainly because now they are able to see the story through Nathan’s eyes. I cannot wait to read the next novel in the series!

HJ grew up in Bricktown New Jersey, less than an hour away from New York City. As a teenager and early twenties, she loved hanging out in the glamor of NYC. She was a "City Brat" so it was pretty difficult for her to pack her stuff and three cats in 2005, for a life changing road trip, moving to California. She's travelled around the country until she met her better half in 2005.
After serving twelve years in the Air Force, the man of her dreams ended his military career and they moved to Georgia in 2007. Since then, they've settled down in Leesburg GA, and had their first child.
No place has ever come close to replacing the magic of New York City for HJ. So when it was decided to try this romance writing gig out, naturally her first book 'Finding Jordie' would be set there.
HJ enjoys reading, and spending time with her family. Reality TV is a guilty pleasure and she's a sucker for romantic comedies and Robert Pattinson. HJ is a pro at goofing off, She talks with her hands, (She's Italian!) She drinks way too much coffee, and gets too little sleep. Oh, and she has a thing for Jackie-O sized sunglasses. HJ's has five furry kids and most importantly, one beautiful daughter. HJ is always striving to be the best Mom possible.
HJ's very passionate about the things she loves, that's why she was outraged when they cancelled SMASH and Southland! It should be considered a small miracle if you ever get to see a serious or pic of her posing all nice and pretty...She's not that girl. She's a spontaneous goof and believes the best things in life come naturally. Yes, that includes random no make-up selfies during a 2:00a.m. writing marathon.

Release Day Blitz: Excerpt & Giveaway! Spun, Kings of Chaos #1 by Shyla Colt

Born to a King of Chaos patch holder with a case of wanderlust and a self-centered mother, twenty-one-year-old Nevada Weber is used to taking care of herself. She's spent her life skating by on her wits and pure determination. When she lands in a situation, she can’t haggle her way out of, she’s forced to rely on another brother for help.

Club enforcer Gage “Wizard” Carmody has done his job too well over the years. Icy and numb on the inside, he walks around in a prison of his making. When the bright green-eyed girl he helped raise winds up unclaimed and in need of protection he steps in seeking redemption.

I’m seeing Nevy for the first time as a woman and not Hulk’s daughter. She rounds the corner and I watch her ass flex. The black lycra shorts hug her round derriere like a second skin. My body heats, and I shift my weight to relieve the tension forming in my jeans. I’m not going to be able to go back to seeing her any other way. It’s like a blindfold has been removed. Yet thinking she’s hot doesn’t mean I have to launch headfirst into anything. Sipping on the scotch, the tension leaves my body and I study her as she interacts with her co-workers.

Shyla Colt grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, but has lived a variety of different places thanks to her wanderlust, interesting careers, and marriage to a United States Marine. She’s always loved books and wrote her very first novel at the age of fifteen. She keeps a copy of her first submission letter on her desk for inspiration.
After a lifetime of traveling, she settled down and knew her time had come to write. Diving into her new career like she does everything else, with enthusiasm, research and a lot of prayers, she had her first book published in June of 2011. As a full-time writer, stay at home mother, and wife, there’s never a dull moment in her household.
She weaves her tales in spare moments and the evenings with a cup of coffee or tea at her side and the characters in her head for company. A self-professed rebel with a pen. Her goal is to diversify romance as she continues to genre hop, and offer up strong female characters.

Release Day Blitz: Excerpt & Giveaway! Love Burns, The River #3 by Babette James

Smokejumper Dave Knight lives by two simple rules—play hard, work harder. Heartache taught him love and commitment don't mix with his high-intensity lifestyle. That hot kiss with the classy Olivia Benedetti-Harper was a mistake, but he walked away in time. Too bad he can't run from the memories. Then a plane crash shatters his future, forcing him to face the ashes of his past, the woman he can't forget, and the toughest challenge of his life: Stop running.

The right man broke her heart. How could the wrong man heal it? Obedient daughter and dutiful wife, Olivia always followed the rules—only to be abandoned by her unfaithful husband. As she rebuilds her life, bad-boy Dave is a sizzling temptation she can't afford. However, breaking the rules with the wrong man might be the best mistake this good girl's ever made for love.

“Come here.” Dave held out his hand. “You’ll need your back done.”

Olivia handed him the sunscreen bottle and knelt.

He lightly kissed her nape before drizzling the lotion over her back. He smoothed both hands along her spine to the cleft of her bottom and to her hips, gliding, sliding, over waist, ribs, shoulders, and neck, turning the simple lotion application into a sensual massage. Her sigh escaped as a dreamy groan.

“Turn around.” His low husky voice drew a deep shiver through her core.

She shifted around, and her mouth dried at his simmering gaze.

He squeezed more lotion onto his fingertips. “Shut your eyes.”

Bright sunlight glowed through her closed eyelids. Cool touches of lotion brushed her face and throat, and she shivered under Dave’s delicate touch.

“Keep your eyes shut.”

She heard him shift on the blanket. His fingertips traced her face, trailed down her throat, and his breath whispered over her face, the scent of apple warning how close his lips were to hers. More gentle sweeps followed, ever lower, to the curves of her breasts.

His lips brushed hers and he dusted kisses across her cheek and jaw, and the tip of her nose, which made her giggle. His warm hand cupped her breast and, at the rough graze of his thumb, she shivered, nervous, yet greedy for more. As he drifted more lazy kisses lower, his thumb played a mesmerizing rhythm, setting her pulse to anxious dancing.

Stop, let him play. This is what you’ve craved: to play, to be wanted, to feel.

Carefully following the rules had brought her heartbreak. Breaking the rules couldn’t be any worse. Right?

The world spun for a second as he rolled Olivia under him.

She gasped and blinked, startled, but intrigued. Yes, she trusted he’d honor a no, but all she could think was oh, yes.

Book Promo: Excerpt & Giveaway! Kiss Me Dead by Dale Ibitz

One curse . . .

Christian, a nineteen-year-old reaper-human hybrid enslaved to the Other World to harvest souls, earns his freedom by making a bargain with the Goddess of Death. As part of the bargain, he’s been cursed with the kiss of death.

One kiss . . .

The only way Christian can break his curse is for an angel to kiss him. Willingly. He finds Brooke, a nineteen-year-old descendant of a Naphil whose destiny is to hunt rogue reapers, suffocating in a semi-agoraphobic cocoon since witnessing a reaper steal her brother’s soul.

Two destinies . . .

Christian has found the angel who can break his curse, and the seduction begins. To break her phobia’s hold, Brooke embraces her angelic role and makes it her mission to kill rogue reapers to avenge her brother’s murder. Christian can break his curse by kissing Brooke dead . . . but will she figure out his game and kill him first?

“Get out!” She crab-walked backward into the wall, wishing she could close her eyes and he’d be gone.

He grabbed her arms. “Stop it.”

“You liar! You’re a soul stealing thief, aren’t you?”

“I never said I was a saint.”

One look at the silver in his eyes, and she erupted with an anger that burned her from the inside. She hauled back her arm to slap him. He caught her wrist and pinned it against the wall.

Silver danced along the blue horizon of his eyes. Breathing hard, he said, “Calm down before you get hurt.”

“You’re the one about to be hurt.”

“I didn’t kill Ryan. Okay? It wasn’t me.”

She glared at him, her hand growing cold, the numbing sensation riding along her wrist and up her arm.

“I’m begging you, please calm down. I don’t want to hurt you.”

Before she could respond, he leaped up. Studying her from the far side of the kitchen, he leaned against the counter, gripping the edge until his knuckles turned white.

Feeling started to return to her fingers. Chafing her hands, she paused a moment before speaking. “Have you stolen souls before?”

“Yes.”

“But not his?”

“No.”

“When’s the last time you’ve stolen one?”

“Decades ago.”

“Do you want to kill me?”

“No.”

Her heart resumed a normal pace, the heat of her anger receding. Christian’s shoulders relaxed, and the silver in his eyes faded to slate gray.

She massaged the finger marks he left on her skin. “Why should I believe you?”

“Why would I lie?”

“To trick me?”

“Into doing what, exactly?”

Good question. “I don’t know.”

“I don’t want you to be afraid of me.”

Light leaped into his eyes, a flash of sun on an angry sea. The trembling fear and anger morphed into a liquid heat. He looked oh-so-cute with his hair tousling around his cheeks. She tasted her lips, breathed in a fairly fresh breath of air, and then swallowed.

He’d saved her life. He said he didn’t kill Ryan. And he said he didn’t want to kill her. She loved him, believed him.

Christian said, “I’ve done things I would change if I could. Things I regret deeply. Haven’t you ever done something you wish you could do over?”

“Of course.”

“I’d like to prove I’m not such a dick. I’d like a second chance with you.”

Her muscles relaxed a fraction. Everyone had good and bad sides. Everyone deserved a second chance. Everyone should be allowed to fix the mistakes of their past.

She took a breath. Another. “Okay, I think I’m done tweaking out.”

Holding out his hand, he said, “Shall we talk?”

Brooke hesitated, then took his hand.

Dale Ibitz was born in Connecticut, grew up in the state of Washington, and then re-located back to Connecticut as an adult, where she studied English at Central Connecticut State University. Always a lover of books, she spent much of her childhood reading, visiting the library (her best friend’s mother was a librarian), and writing. In sixth grade, she placed 3rd in a writing contest, and she’s never stopped.
Dale’s a fan of hiking and the outdoors, seriously good writing, and she never, ever starts the day without chocolate and coffee (preferably together). Music inspires her, and she likes to listen to alternative metal.
If you were to visit Dale’s house, you'd meet her husband, 2 kids, their dog Lea (most people simply refer to her as The Beast...and for good reason), their cat Luna (affectionately known as Loony Luna), and a couple of loud-beaked parakeets.

Along the way he doesn’t just seek to secure her safety, he wants to secure her heart.

“You don’t.” He shrugged. “I don’t think I would laugh. I can’t imagine you saying something that would make me laugh in answer to my question. But if you’re asking me if I’ll laugh at your wants, needs, or desires…I can promise you I won’t.”

“At the club—”

“At the club, I wasn’t laughing at you. I was trying to protect you.” His voice dropped, making him sound regretful, apologetic. “I went about it the wrong way. I’m sorry if it hurt you.”

The silence hung between them, and she seemed unable to make her mouth move.

“Now, finish what you were saying.”

“Last night, before you showed up, I was watching a romantic comedy. Well, really, it was an action movie, but it was so cheesy… Anyway, there was a love scene… It did nothing for me.” She tucked her hands under her legs.

“It didn’t turn you on?” He entwined his fingers together in his lap.

“No.” She kept her eyes on his hands. There was a strength in them that she suddenly wanted to feel on her skin. The roughness of his fingertips trailing down her arms, the firmness of his palms on her hips—these thoughts were drowning her.

“What would have turned you on?” His question pulled her from her fantasy.

“If he had grabbed her by the hair.” Her answer sounded meek. “If he had tossed her onto the bed. Anything that would have shown his power over her. If she had obeyed a command, even a small one…” She trailed off, unsure of continuing and making a fool of herself again.

“Obedience turns you on?” His voice lightened.

“Yes.” She nodded, but did not look at him.

He dropped his right foot from his knee and scooted over on the couch, until their knees touched.

He reached over to her, lifted her gaze to his with a fingertip under her chin, and held her eyes with his. “Me too.”

As I stretch my vision past Aubrey, to another group of barely-dressed girls, I notice her. Long, coffee-brown hair falling down her back and almost touching her perfectly rounded ass. The ass that’s encased in a skin-tight black number and silky legs accentuated by heels that look dangerous. It’s a sin that someone who looks like her should have her eyes focused on the ground. Focus them on me, I will her. A package as beautifully put together as she is deserves attention—my attention. If only she knew she blows every woman in this room away. And not just because of how striking she is. There’s something about her, something different. This woman is a rare find in a room full of cookie-cutter imitations. Her shiny waves cascade over her shoulders, bouncing as she walks in my direction. The deep chocolate hue compliments her radiant olive skin tone and her glistening green eyes. This woman is fucking gorgeous. Not the kind you take home to screw, the kind you take home to Mom . . . or, er, Grandma. “Caleb. I was talking to you.” I snap back to find Aubrey’s hands around my waist. “Conversation’s over. There’s someone I need to talk to.” I walk away, not even glancing back at Aubrey. I need to know who this woman is. I’m not a spiritual man, but she just might be sent from heaven. She’s the type of woman who could change the whole game. At least that’s the vibe I’m getting. As I escape Aubrey, it’s as if I’m being magnetically pulled toward the woman now sitting at the bar. I watch her from afar at first, gauging her body language. Her fingers tap on the marble bar top as she waits for the bartender’s attention. She’s new to this. No regular waits for her order to be taken when she looks the way she does. Dude, I want to scream at the bartender, how can you not see her? She’s . . . God, not only is she gorgeous but there’s something about the way she’s fidgeting that tells me she’s completely out of her element. How could this sophisticated beauty be out of her element in a club full of women who wish they had half her class? And why is she here alone? If she were my girl, everyone would know it. My arms would be wrapped around her, my fingers settling on the small of her back, claiming her as mine. I watch this classy creature as she plays with the curled edges of her hair, twisting the strands around her index finger. I play with my hair when I’m nervous. Is she nervous or just timid? Either way, I want to know. I want to know everything about this damn woman, starting with her name. When she orders herself a Ketel and Seven I decide to be brave. “Make that two,” I add, getting comfortable in my stool. At first she eyes me like I’m some creep, but then . . . shit! When our eyes meet it’s as if the universe has made up for every shitty thing that ever came my way.
