Joseph Fallen

First of all let me give you a warning.

This is not a book that has a happy ending. I’m not sure I can even put it in the Dark Romance category because what you’ll find here is in no way, shape or form romantic.

Joseph Fallen is a twisted story of a brilliant man who loses everything he once held dear for the love of money and power.

He’s a genius, madly in love with his oh so beautiful wife Arianna, the woman he wants to give everything to.

He craves power more than anything else and he’s ready to do anything to get it.

When the opportunity arises, he grabs it and that’s the moment when everything changes.

His values, his integrity, his love for his wife, their quiet happiness don’t matter anymore. Or at least not in the way they should.

I don’t even know what to say, how to describe their story. One moment he’s trying really hard to create a better life for themselves and the next he’s this dark, twisted creature who’s consumed and controlled by his desire to have more and more.

The Estate turns from a dream into a prison for both Joseph and Arianna but in different ways and what happens behind it’s walls is a nightmare no one can ever imagine.

I have read Dark Romance before, even if here you won’t find such things as romance, but this one messed me up big time. I don’t know what I was expecting but it sure as hell wasn’t what I’ve got.

It’s been more than a year and some things are burnt into my memory even now.

I do not have a rating for the story itself. I just can’t. I have no idea how to rate something like that.

I’ll tell you what I’m going to rate. The writing style. It’s brilliant. The author is incredibly talented and she managed to keep me glued to my chair unable to put the book down even if it burned my soul and made me want to curl into a tiny ball until it all went away.

I have to grant her this, she created a masterpiece that will leave you scarred forever and she’s done it with so much skill that it will grab you from the very first pages and keep a hold on you until the very end, destroying your mental sanity in the process.

Bravo, M.S. Willis!

I usually end my reviews with the phrase “Happy Reading” but I won’t do that today. I’ll sign off by telling you that if you love the Dark genre and you think you can handle something like I just described, this is the book for you. If your psyche can’t handle abuse in any shape or form, then stay as far away as possible. This is not the book for someone who wants to try Dark Romance for the first time.

Captive in the Dark

This book.
Do you even know how many times I picked it up, read a few passages and then gave up on it? Yeah, neither do I. Too many to count. And not because it’s poorly written or something like that. No.

The thing that is so damn good and you love it, even when you imagine the worst possible way to torture the male character while reading and, trust me, he brought out my sadistic side like no one else ever has.

I am writing this review after I read Seduced in the Dark also and I know how the story ends but it doesn’t change a damn thing.

Caleb is a sadistic, heartless creature trained to obey. I feel pity for the child he’s been but the man he has become has no excuse.

He’s cruel and hell bent on revenge and the reason doesn’t excuse the means. Not in this case.

Olivia. Let’s just say that she’s stronger than I would have been. Hell, she’s stronger than anyone would have been in her situation.

She fights Caleb every step of the way and she refuses to break even if that means more pain for her. She didn’t have a normal childhood either and maybe the hurt, twisted creature inside her is able to feel it’s mate in her torturer.

There is no romance here. Nothing to make everything easier to digest. Captive in the Dark it’s about a girl being at the mercy of a man who intends to break her and humiliate her for his own purposes.

If you’re not okay with this, then stay away. This is not the book for you nor is it an easy read.

Another thing that’s impressive is the writing. Dark Duets was C.J.’s debut as an author and she did a wonderful job. The Dark genre it’s not easy to write, especially for a beginner, but she did it and created a story that will capture your heart and your mind and bring you into a world where pain is the key word and a woman is only an object to be used at will by those who have a twisted mind and even more twisted desires.

My advice for you is to hang on and read until the end. I promise, you won’t be disappointed and the next installment will be even better. Trust me.

It will all be worth it in the end.

Happy Reading!!

OMG! I LOVE CJ Robert's Dark Duet series and Pam Goodwin's Beneath the Burn! <3 Captive in the Dark is my first dark read which made me fall in love with darker and grittier romances ;) What can I say? Caleb/James has ruined me for others and I'll never be quite that vanilla anymore. Lol! There's just so much more emotion, struggles and pain in a dark read that sucks you in... and the HEA is so much more rewarding! Plus, the heroines are such kickass, strong women! I definitely 1-clicked this and would highly recommend it! Shared on Facebook. Thanks!
