Happy Release Day: Interview & Review! Strangers In The Night by Jaycee Edward & Helena Stone

When Army veteran, Slade, stumbles upon an isolated cottage on a cold, dark, night, the young man finds more than just the shelter he’s seeking.

Former club Dominant Callum is surprised to find a handsome stranger knocking at his door but invites him in despite his reservations. A nightmare reveals Slade’s deep-seated emotional issues, and Callum knows he needs to get creative if he’s going to help Slade leave the past behind.

Neither man is prepared for the feelings Slade’s introduction into the world of BDSM will unleash, and thirty-six hours will either be enough to bind them, or they will remain forever strangers in the night.

Hello, ladies! Welcome to Mikky’s World Of Books. Tell us a little bit about yourselves.

Helena: Thank you for hosting us Mikky, we’re delighted to visit your wonderful blog.

Jaycee: Yes, thank you, Mikky! We’re thrilled to be here.

Helena: A little bit of information about me….Well, I’m Dutch but live in Ireland with my Irish husband. Our daughter is all grown and independent so it’s just the two of us and the dog, Sparky. I’ve come to writing later in life but have had a love affair with books and words for as long as I can remember and have a part-time job as a librarian.

Jaycee: I’m American and I live in America with my American husband. LOL. I’m boring. I actually live in the same little town I was born in, which is in northeast Ohio. I always planned on leaving, but, basically, I hate change, so here I am. Plus most of my family is here, so that definitely makes it hard to pull up roots. After working full-time for 35+ years, I decided to try retirement. That was two years ago. So far I’m loving it. I miss the interaction with people but, to be honest, I’ve “met” so many awesome people online that I don’t miss the real humans. Is that bad? *shrugs*

Helena: No, it’s not bad, in fact it’s perfect. If it wasn’t for meeting people online we wouldn’t be here answering these questions. Just sayin’.

With Helena in Ireland and Jaycee in the States, how did you two meet? How did you decide to write a book together?

Helena: We met because we both stalked  - I mean followed - the same role players on Twitter.

Jaycee: Yeah, that’s a story in itself, isn’t it? I don’t know about Helena, but, while that may be the most fascinating part about our relationship, it’s also one we hold pretty close to the vest. Let’s just say it was serendipity.

Helena: I guess we could blame Tiffany Reisz for everything. If hadn’t been for her Original Sinners - I don’t even want to think about that scenario.

Jaycee: God bless the Sinners.  *snickers*

Helena: Pun intended?

Jaycee: Totes. :D

Why M/M Romance?

Jaycee: This is an easy one for me!  After reading The Angel (another Tiffany Reisz plug), I was blown away by the love story between Michael and Griffin. I’ve still never read another love story with that kind of impact on me. And… added bonus… no wet lady bits… that pretty much sealed the deal. Plus, I love angst - there can never be enough angst for me - and M/M lends itself naturally to angst because of the obstacles the characters will have to overcome both within themselves and with society.

Helena: See, as I said, we could blame Tiffany Reisz for everything. Seriously though, like Jaycee, I lost myself in The Angel and it was my introduction to the M/M genre. I wanted to explore a love story between two truly equal partners. With two men as the main characters it was possible to write dynamics which might not exist in an M/F relationship and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring that.

What are you working on right now? Do you think you’ll write more books together in the future?

Jaycee: I have another M/M novella coming out soon called Dragons. I’m also working on a story about two homeless boys that sprung from a FlashFic project. And... I’m still nursing my biggest baby - my cowboy/accountant novel. My goal is to get it weaned and subbed soon, but there are still some changes I need to make to it. And… of course Helena and I wanted… no needed (sorry… inside joke) to spend some more time with Callum and Slade, so we are well into the next part of their journey together.

Helena: My M/F novel, Little Rainbows, will go on general release later this month (and I think you may have been kind enough to feature the book here on your blog). I’ve got a story submitted and am working on one or two others but really don’t want to say too much about them until things are further along. But, as Jaycee said, we are working hard on another story featuring Slade and Callum; our men are just too adorable to not visit with them again. Besides, I don’t think Jaycee has tormented them quite enough yet. :)

Jaycee: *waggles eyebrows* Poor Slade.

Helena: Hey, don’t forget about Callum. He’s getting his fair share of angst too. Just because he’s more stoic about it….

Jaycee: I could never forget about Callum…

Helena: *sighs*

What’s your advice for all the aspiring authors out there?

Jaycee: Oh, gosh. I hate this question and I hate the answer I’m going to give even more: Write. I know that’s what everybody says and I remember seeing that and thinking, “Gee… thanks. That’s really helpful.”  But it’s true. Write and everything else will follow. Make friends online with people who write. You’ll be amazed at how much you learn just from online conversations about writing. The other thing? Get a beta reader who will be brutally honest with you and thank them for that brutality!  You need to know when something doesn’t work before it’s ‘out there’.

Helena: It is exactly like Jaycee says, if you want to write the only thing to do is sit down and write. If you don’t try you’ll never know whether or not you’ll have that story inside or if you have the words to get it out there. The only thing I would add to what Jaycee has said is, worry about spelling, beta-reading, editing and submitting after you’ve written your first draft. Get that story on your screen - first, start to finish. If you worry about everything else from the beginning the whole process might become too overwhelming. So give yourself permission to do it one step at a time.

Jaycee: Unless you’re anal like me, and can’t move forward if something’s misspelled behind you. I’m like a Marine who can’t leave them behind. That’s the other thing: there’s no right way to do this. Helena and I are two very different types of writers. I tend to focus on each sentence and construct and deconstruct it a bazillion times as I type it. Helena bangs the words out as fast as they enter her head. She’s at the end of the page and I’m still writing and rewriting one particular sentence. Do whatever works for you. You can always go back and change your words - but only if you’ve written them!

Helena:  And I still haven’t figured out whether we work so well together because or inspite of those differences.

Jaycee: I think ‘because of’. Can you imagine if we both were spewing words all over the page? It would be like a cursor race! LOL! I think we’re a perfect match.

Helena: It certainly feels that way.

Thank you so much for agreeing to this interview and congratulations on your new release! Here’s to many, many more!

Helena: Thanks again. We had a blast.

Jaycee:  We did! I’ll admit - I started off groaning - but, as usual, when I get into the same document with Helena, I end up grinning. Thank you, Mikky!

Helena:  WE end up grinning - and laughing out loud, even if we can’t hear each other.

Jaycee: And, oh, yeah… the book! Almost forgot about the book! Sorry - this part is all new to us.  Strangers In The Night, our novella, was released yesterday!  We hope you love Callum and Slade as much as we do. We’d love to hear from you!

Helena: What she said.

Jaycee: *snickers* That’s so not fair.

Helena: Who said anything about fair? When you say all the right things there’s no need for me to repeat them. Remember, repetition is one of those things we should avoid.

Jaycee: This is true. Just as long as you’re there to catch me when I fail.

Helena: And vice versa.

Jaycee: Then we’re golden.

I’m useless when it comes to writing a review for a novella because there isn’t much I can say without heading into spoiler territory.

Two strangers meet one dark, stormy night and two lives change forever.

Slade needs someone who can show him how to let go and Callum has so much to give. Two completely different worlds collide and two souls merge. In the end, they’ll have to decide if what they have is worth fighting for or if it’s better if they go their separate ways.

Let me tell you, these two ladies write beautifully together. Yes, the story is short as it should be since we’re talking about a novella, but it’s so intense. There’s so much going on, so many feelings, so much passion, so much hurt and, maybe, even love.

It was so easy to fall in love with these two guys and Slade’s story broke my heart.
There’s great potential, right there and I’m sure Jaycee and Helena will give us many more interesting books in the future.

I highly recommend it.

Happy Reading!

Helena Stone can’t remember a life before words and reading. After growing up in a household where no holiday or festivity was complete without at least one new book, it’s hardly surprising she now owns more books than shelf space while her Kindle is about to explode.
The urge to write came as a surprise. The realisation that people might enjoy her words was a shock to say the least. Now that the writing bug has well and truly taken hold, Helena can no longer imagine not sharing the characters in her head and heart with the rest of the world.
Having left the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam for the peace and quiet of the Irish Country side she divides her time between reading, writing, long and often wet walks with the dog, her part-time job in a library, a grown-up daughter and her ever loving and patient husband.

Jaycee Edward is no longer seventeen years old but don’t tell her that. She’s actually a tad older and lives in northeast Ohio with her handsome husband and one, big gorgeous dog. She has two grown stepdaughters and is proud to be the ultra-cool Nana to two amazingly incredible grand-teens. Jaycee loves pistol shooting and is has earned her Bar 7 Sharpshooter status in the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program and hopes to someday reach the level of Expert Marksman. She is the token liberal and constant source of fascination to the other members at her gun range. Jaycee knows way too much about the inner workings of Walt Disney World and anything related to One Direction. She’d love to pull you into the rabbit hole with her. All you have to do is ask. Find her there or contact her through social media.
