Release Day Blitz! Excerpt & Giveaway: Dom of Ages, Collars & Cuffs #7 by K.C. Wells & Parker Williams

Eli may only be thirty, but he has had enough of pretend submissives. He wants a sub who truly knows how to submit. So when he spies Jarod in a BDSM club, everything about the man screams submission. It doesn’t matter that Jarod has to be about twenty years older than Eli. What does age matter, anyway? Not one to miss an opportunity, Eli moves fast and takes Jarod home with him, without thinking things through. All he can see is what he’s always wanted – a sub who wants to serve.

Jarod spent twenty-eight years with his Master, until Fate took Phillip from him. Four years on, and Jarod is still lost, so when a young Dom takes charge, Jarod rolls with it and finds himself serving again. But he keeps waiting for the shoe to drop. Because there’s going to come a point when Eli realizes he’s a laughing stock in the club. Who would want to be seen with a fifty-year-old sub? And when the moment of humiliation does arrive, Jarod flees. He’d be better off with Phillip.

Despite several missteps, what happens forces Eli to understand that Jarod needs him as much as he needs Jarod. But he knows in order to find happiness, they need friends who will understand. A friend keeps telling him Collars & Cuffs is what they need. Eli finally goes to visit, refusing to risk Jarod being hurt again, and finds everything he's heard about the club is true. When he takes Jarod, he watches as his sub is met with open arms. As they settle in to their new life, Eli begins to see things differently. And he dares to think he can have it all. Until the phone call that shows him he didn't realize what he could lose.

Eli

I climbed back into the cab of the truck, my bladder relieved. A glance at my phone told me I could spare half an hour for lunch. I’d done three runs that morning, and I was ready for a break. I’d parked in the car park of one of the M6 motorway service stations, alongside a load of trucks and lorries.

I pulled open the plastic bag Jarod had thrust into my hand as I’d walked out the door that morning, and smiled. He’d put together a great lunch for me, and my belly rumbled at the sight of more of those delicious rolls. Talk about spoiled.

I took a bite of fresh bread and cooked ham, and reflected on the events of the previous night. I couldn’t wait to get home and see what was waiting for me. I wondered what Jarod was doing at that moment. A sub who wants to serve. It was something I’d thought about often, having someone around to take care of my needs, physical and otherwise.

Who’d have thought the night would’ve ended like that?

My phone pulsed out a shrill tone. I reached for it and grinned when I saw Ben’s name. He wasn’t going to believe this, either.

“Hey, what gives?”

“I wasn’t sure if you had a full day planned. I wondered if you’d like to go for a run this evening.”

I smiled to myself. “Okay, what’s Scott doing?”

“How do you know he’s doing anything?” Then Ben chuckled. “Oh, all right, he’s at a class. I thought I’d see if you were available.”

I wasn’t fooled, not for a second. “Yeah, right. What you really mean is, your boy’s not available, so you’ll make do with me.” I laughed when the line fell silent. “I’m right, aren’t I?”

“Oh hush. Do you want to go for a run or don’t you?”

Any other time, it would have been a great idea, but all I wanted to do after work was to go home and see what Jarod had accomplished. Speaking of which….

“Yeah, fine. Listen, you’re not gonna believe what happened to me last night at the club.” Without waiting for him to butt in, I told him the whole story.

More silence. “Ben? You there?”

“You are kidding me, right?”

I stiffened. “Why, what’s the matter?”

“Where is this guy now?”

I huffed. “Jarod’s at my house, cleaning, or maybe he’s out shopping for groceries. Why?”

Ben sighed. “Let me get this straight. You put a collar on this guy and then just took him home with you? After a conversation that must’ve lasted, what, all of two minutes? You really haven’t thought this through, have you?”

I was beginning to feel exasperated. “Look, what is your problem? Jarod’s a sub, he wants to serve, and I want someone to serve me.”

I swore Ben growled down the phone at me. “If you were a member of Collars & Cuffs and Thomas got to hear about this, you’d be out on your ear. He’s one of the guys who owns the club, and he’s trained a lot of Doms. He has this list of one hundred rules. I think you’ve probably broken at least ten of them.”

I didn’t understand his reaction. “But this is what I’ve wanted for so long, someone to take care of me.”

“Oh, so you’re paying Jarod, is that right?”

“What?”

“Because basically, he’s not your submissive, he’s your servant. He can’t be your submissive without a contract, without some discussion of his limits.” Ben’s voice hardened. “What discussion have you actually had, apart from ‘here’s money for the shopping, cook my dinner, etc’? Did you at least make him a shopping list?”

My head was spinning. Hearing Ben put it like that really made me think.

“Eli.” Ben’s voice softened. “I understand what you’re saying, but the fact of the matter is, you know nothing about him. So no, we’re not going for a run tonight. You need to go home and clear up your mess.” Another sigh. “Sorry, mate, but it needs to be said. What sort of friend would I be if I didn’t tell you when you fuck up?” His rough chuckle tickled my ear.

That made me think. “Fair enough. I’ll speak to you soon, yeah?” We said good-bye, and I finished my lunch. Only now, each mouthful felt like I was swallowing pebbles.

I have fucked this up, haven’t I?Ben was right. I needed to go home and fix things—if they were fixable.

K.C. Wells:

Born and raised in the north-west of England, K.C. Wells always loved writing. Words were important. Full stop. However, when childhood gave way to adulthood, the writing ceased, as life got in the way.
K.C. discovered erotic fiction in 2009, where the purchase of a ménage storyline led to the startling discovery that reading about men in love was damn hot. In 2012, arriving at a really low point in life led to the desperate need to do something creative. An even bigger discovery waited in the wings—writing about men in love was even hotter....
K.C. now writes full time and is loving every minute of her new career.
The laptop still has no idea of what hit it... it only knows that it wants a rest, please. And it now has to get used to the idea that where K.C goes, it goes.

Parker Williams:

Parker Williams began to write as a teen, but never showed his work to anyone. As he grew older, he drifted away from writing, but his love of the written word moved him to reading. A chance encounter with an author changed the course of his life as she encouraged him to never give up on a dream. With the help of some amazing friends, he rediscovered the joy of writing, thanks to a community of writers who have become his family.
Parker firmly believes in love, but is also of the opinion that anything worth having requires work and sacrifice (plus a little hurt and angst, too). The course of love is never a smooth one, and Happily Ever After always has a price tag.

Adrik was deep in conversation with Valerik when they approached the porch. Their conversation terminated when Dmitri and Brennen arrived. Mischa was right behind them.

“Why is he here? He’s not a Dubrovsky. He’s your wife, so he needs to be baking in the kitchen.” Valerik spit on the snow.

Brennen lowered his eyes for a moment and when he’d had just about enough, he spoke in Russian to be sure the old man heard and understood. “That is the last cheap fucking insult you get. One more insult from you and I’ll personally take Dominika home. You’ll never see our daughter again.”

“That was uncalled for,” Dmitri shouted at Valerik. “I stand with Brennen on this. You insult my husband one more time, then you’ll never see any of us.”

“That goes for me, too. I won’t allow you to treat Brennen like this. We love him and he is part of us. You need to apologize,” Mischa said.“I agree. Brennen has been part of the Dubrovsky family since he was a child. Keep your homophobic attitude out of Christmas. We’re here to celebrate as a family. None of us will visit you ever again if you continue this abuse,” Adrik said.

Excerpt & Giveaway! Expanding Horizons, Love in Germany #2 by Chris McHart

After a year and a half together, Ryan and his Dom Julian are still happy and finally married.

Shortly before Christmas, though, Julian brings something up he’s dreamt of before. He wants to play in public with Ryan. His partner is totally against it and suggests something else. Before they know what happens, they have the biggest fight on their hands.

Instead of getting ready for a second Christmas together, they are angry at each other. They both have to step back, make up their minds and apologize before they spend the holidays being miserable.

~*~

I stared at my groom, totally speechless. He was really going to do this with me. Or I was going to do it with him. In either case, this was real. We were going to get married. Like, in ten minutes, we’d be a wedded couple. I swallowed against the lump in my throat. When he’d asked me a few months ago, I was all for doing it immediately. But now, as we were waiting for the last guests to arrive, my nerves were getting the better of me.

Ryan was my everything. My soulmate, partner, and sub, and I loved him more than anything. Spending the rest of my life by his side was my own personal heaven.

He’d moved to Germany for me, leaving behind his life and family in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as the heat. Currently, in the summer, it was okay, but he’d suffer quite a bit when the winter came. It would take a few years until he was used to the cold winters in Nürnberg.

Currently, Ryan was talking to his mother. His parents had flown in from the States to watch their son get married. I’d met them before and really loved them. They were great in-laws, and I knew they were truly happy Ryan had found a partner, even if it was half a world away from them. When we’d planned our wedding, we’d decided against our dads bringing us to the altar, so I was going to meet Ryan in the middle of the rows of chairs, and then we’d walk to the registrar together. This was going to be a simple civil union, since gays were still not allowed to actually marry in Germany, but for me, it was big. To me, it was marriage.

I tried to catch Ryan’s eye. It was time. We had a party scheduled and afterwards, I intended to have my very own celebration with Ryan. He was my sub for a reason, and I wanted to make sure he wouldn’t forget that on this very special day.

I limited our playing to the bedroom, something Ryan was absolutely fine with, but today, upon seeing him in his dark suit, I desired more. It wasn’t the first time I’d closed my eyes and imagined him on his knees, hands bound behind his back, while I showed him off in public. He was so gorgeous, so stunning, in his submission, and the dark suit accentuated it even more. He wore it as well as he wore my marks. I wanted to let the world know this man was mine. He gave his lust, his love to me, and I wanted everyone to see what was between us. This was one of the steps, and wearing a wedding ring highlighted it even more for me, but I wanted the other side, the BDSM side as well. I wasn’t too fond of public play, but with Ryan I found myself entertaining the thought way too often.

I had absolutely no restraint when it came to this man. We’d been together for a year and a half, yet I still wanted him so much. A shiver crawled down my spine. Later, I would put him on his knees and drive him out of his mind. He submitted so beautifully, and seeing him in the suit, and knowing he’d said “yes, I do” would make it even more arousing.

Ryan nodded in my direction. Show time.

He exchanged a few words with his mother, then headed in my direction. I caught his gaze. A smile played around Ryan’s lips. He looked as happy as I was. We’d planned, organized, and scheduled for this day, and now it was finally here. I still couldn’t believe it. In an hour, we’d be married. I resisted the urge to pinch myself, and instead moved forward toward my future husband.

Ryan took my hand, the expression on his face radiant. The simple room in the city hall faded even more against his grin. And I was getting sentimental.

“Ready, my love?” I asked him, even though I knew he was.

“Of course, always.”

We turned to the rows of chairs, where our families sat. Together, we walked to the registrar. Our hands were still joined as we stopped at the podium.

“Can we start?” the man asked kindly.

I couldn’t speak around the lump in my throat, so I only nodded.

“We are here today to celebrate a civil union between Julian Neumann and Ryan Aspen. Ryan Philippe Aspen and Julian Walter Neumann, are you ready and willing to pledge to share your lives with one another, in a committed and binding relationship?”

I gazed over at my partner. “Yes, I am,” Ryan and I said together.

“Do you, Ryan Philippe Aspen want to commit to Julian Walter Neumann?”

“I do,” Ryan declared in a strong voice.

The registrar smiled and I released a breath I hadn’t realized I’d been holding. Until this moment, it had somehow been unreal. Picking out the suits, the appointment to get our papers, the fact that our families were here, none of it compared to the fact that he’d really, truly said yes.

The registrar focused on me. “Do you, Julian Walter Neumann want to commit to Ryan Philippe Aspen?”

“I do,” I managed to say. My throat was nearly closed off. We were really doing this. I had no doubt Ryan was the one I would love forever, but it still was so surreal. Again, the urge to pinch myself rode me hard, but it would’ve looked suspicious if I’d done so in front of our witnesses and family.

“Then, by virtue of this office, I declare you lawfully joined in a civil union. You can kiss now.” The man smiled again. We’d talked about it before and told him we very much wanted the kissing part in the ceremony. While the whole affair was nothing big, this was something we absolutely didn’t want to miss out on.

Slowly, I raised my hand and rested it on Ryan’s neck, while he slipped his arm around my waist. Staring into his eyes, I drew him closer to me. With a soft sigh, our lips met for the very first time as a married couple. Holy shit.

His tongue teased my lips, and all too willingly I parted them. Ryan tasted like he always did, yet our kiss sent a shiver down my back. I loved him so very much. Shaking, I kept him in the kiss, our tongues dancing. The registrar probably hadn’t meant we should do this here, but I couldn’t stop myself. My fingers were buried in the short hair of Ryan’s neck, his arms were wound around my waist, and I couldn’t stop kissing him. I wanted to do so much more, but that really had to wait a bit longer.

Although, if we didn’t quit kissing soon, we’d have to leave the party before it even started.

With a last lingering kiss, I pulled back a little and opened my eyes. Ryan seemed as flustered as I was, his lips already shining and dark red like they always were whenever I kissed him thoroughly. He was on the verge of getting on his knees, if I wasn’t mistaken. He wouldn’t, not with his family here, but we needed to stop making out. I’d have enough time to play with him once we were at home alone. And I would play with him. He needed it, and so did I.

~ Mikky's World Of Books

Sweeping through the glitz and glamour of New York’s high society and the drama unfolding in the dressing rooms of Broadway, Wrapped, by Juliet Braddock, continues the journey of a young theatrical publicist’s foray into submission under the tutelage of a dashingly dark star of the stage. Wrapped—the much anticipated sequel to Braddock’s critically acclaimed erotic romance Weakened—is the second book in the Manhattan Bound series. When Drew McKenzie presents Maxine Kirk with an ultimatum, challenging her to engage in his wanton brand of desire, she readily embraces her awakening hunger for a lifestyle that defies her perceptions of romance. Entranced by Drew’s charming appeal and by his sensual assault to her senses, Maxine clamors to discover every nuance of this new relationship, ravenous to explore verboten fantasies that seem possible to fulfill only with Drew. Along the way, he introduces her to his glamorous world of wealth and celebrity—where lavish galas and luxurious gifts are the norm—and entices her into his realm of control with his tender mode of domination. All the while, however, they both grapple with painful emotions brought about by the extenuating circumstances of their separate pasts. While Drew remains both confident and conscientious in his parlay of power over Maxine, his own tragic secret lurks in every shadow upon his path in life. Behind the façade of his stage persona and the origin of old Manhattan society, he struggles to hide the unforgiving reality he faced as a child. Just as Maxine finds the strength to conquer her own torment with Drew’s patience and guidance leading her toward closure, terrifying truths begin to chip away at the surface of his composure. As the nightmarish details of Drew’s unimaginable life emerge, he fears that this new world he’d begun to build with Maxine will crumble around him. As Maxine finds herself embroiled in the battle to save Drew’s tortured soul from the atrocities that continue to stalk his every move, two lost souls struggling to find comfort and completion converge. However, as Drew opens his heart to Maxine’s unwavering support, he questions his own bravery, wondering if she’ll take a bow and make her exit…or if she’ll stick around for the encore?

~*~
“Why? Why would you want me?” All her arrogance was gone.

“Because we’re friends and I like you and you’re gorgeous. I’ve wanted to sleep with you from the moment I saw you. That might not be what you want to hear, but it’s the truth. I think we could be good for each other. Neither one of us has had a lover in a long time. Am I right?”

“You’re right,” she replied. “I haven’t even dated anyone since my divorce.”

“Then why not try? If it doesn’t work, we’ll go back to being friends.”

Her head shook. “That never happens.”

“I don’t know what kind of douchebags you’ve been dating, but I’m still friends with almost every woman I’ve ever dated. It doesn’t have to end in either happily ever after or hate. Especially if we’re both honest. The contract is for six weeks. I can promise you right now that I’m still going to like you after six weeks. You be honest with me. Were you planning on experimenting with your training Dom if you’d had chemistry with him? Before you knew I was the Dom. Would you have given that Dom a chance?”

She nodded silently.

“Well, then I suppose we’ll have a very abstinent training period and then we’ll go our separate ways when it comes to the club. I guess Big Tag and the shrink aren’t as smart as they think they are.” He wasn’t about to give up. This was only the beginning of a very long battle, but it was time to retreat. “We’ll talk about the contract later tonight and set up all the rules. I’ll still have to touch you during the scenes, but I’ll make it as impersonal as possible.”

“We don’t know that we have chemistry,” she said quietly, making no move to grab the bags.

He shrugged. “I guess we won’t know.”

He turned to begin helping her. He would take the bags out to her car and then let Grace know she was on her way. Someone would meet her in the parking garage to help her bring everything up. He would spend the afternoon planning menus with Chef and heading to the farmer’s market to find fresh vegetables for dinner.

A hand on his arm gently pulled and he turned.

Deena was standing right there, her face turned up to him, her eyes wide. “Shouldn’t we know?”

She went on her toes and pressed her mouth to his. He went still, unwilling to frighten her away. Soft lips moved over his as her hands found his waist. She was tentative, but he could sense the fire in her. Those hands told the real tale. They moved restlessly, as though she had them on a leash. He wanted that leash taken off.

When she ended the kiss and stared up at him, he decided to go for broke. She wanted to see if they had chemistry? He could show her how volatile they could be.

“My turn,” he whispered before he took control. His hands slid up her neck, fingers sinking into the soft, silky strands of her hair.

He kissed her, moving his lips over hers, commanding her. The minute he took control those hands of hers started to move, sliding up the muscles of his back, her body pressing in. He felt her relax as though happy to not be the one in charge. Deena could take control of a room of diners and work that floor with an iron will, but she was shy about this. She needed him to take charge of the physical part.

He could do that. It wouldn’t be sexy if she weren’t so together in the rest of her life. He kissed her again and again, his tongue finally moving over her full bottom lip. She groaned and her mouth opened, welcoming him inside.

The kiss turned wild, their tongues playing against each other as their bodies came together. He could feel her rubbing against him. He would bet her body was soft, her pussy already getting slick and ready for him.

He was so ready for her.

And if he took her right here on the prep table, she would likely run away forever. She wasn’t ready. Not even close.

He broke off the kiss, brushing his lips lightly against hers one last time. He’d promised her control. It was damn iron will that got him to take his hands off her. She was so sweet looking with her hair mussed and her lips puffy from kissing. This was how he wanted to see her all the time. Sweet and willing and ultimately satisfied.

Satisfaction would have to wait.

“We have plenty of chemistry, sweetheart.”

Warning:

This is a Gay adult consensual story focused on themes of corporal discipline punishment and explicit sex with light elements of BDSM between adult men over the age of eighteen.

Dmitri took Brennen’s hand and they walked to the outside bar, sitting right on the white sand. They each sat down on a stool. Dmitri had ordered them two fun island drinks with the cute umbrellas inside the glasses.

“It’s so nice to be alone with you, Bren. Just us. No one else.”

“Yeah, finally.”

“Do you like your drink?” Dmitri asked.

“Yeah, it’s fine. Good choice.”

“So what’s wrong then?”

“What do you mean?” Brennen stirred his drink and removed the umbrella.

“I can tell you’re pissed off about something.” Dmitri forked his shrimp and dipped it in the hot red sauce.

“Are you really ready to hear why I’m pissed?” Brennen asked.

The lively twinkle in his blue eyes only incensed Dmitri more. He knew something had been wrong since the night he had returned from Antonio’s. He probably could have taken him with him, but he just didn’t want to taint him with anything illegal.

They also have to make sure Allistair stays safe. Filthy rich playboys are too tempting to those who seek the ultimate payday—and who aren’t afraid of hurting someone to get it.

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of BDSM and fetishism.

“…I entered the military to find my way to a new life.”

“Was that difficult? I mean, you said that…” Allistair had to clear his throat, battling a strange sensation of his air being cut off. “You mentioned that you and…Cole? The, uh, your friend were both Army Rangers together. Were you, uh, interacting with him when you were stationed together?”

“That’s when it started, yes.” Steve paused, locking eyes with him. “That’s when we first turned to each other for comfort after particularly brutal skirmishes. It was a way to cleanse ourselves of the ugliness.”

Allistair chuckled uneasily, trying desperately to lighten things up. “See? Not everything was in your file.”

“Allistair…” Steve laid a gentle hand on his arm again. “Cole and I aren’t in a relationship. Not in the way you’re thinking.”

He didn’t want to come across as a petulant child. After all, only two days before he’d taken Steve, he’d whipped and fucked two gorgeous twins. What right did he have to question who Steve saw?

But that was before. It’s different now. Isn’t it?

“Of course. Sorry.” He took a sip of his stone cold espresso, doing his best not to purse his lips at how nasty it tasted. “Were you ever concerned about getting caught? I mean, because you were…”

Shit. This conversing freely thing is a giant pain in the ass.

Steve arched his eyebrows. “Because we were enlisted during Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell?” Steve snorted. “You obviously remembered that part of my file.” Steve sighed. “Hey. Look at me.” Allistair met his gaze. “It’s okay, we’ve moved past that. I was just giving you a hard time.”

Allistair smirked at him. “But I like it when you give me a hard time.”

“Now who’s a tease?”

Laughter filled him then bubbled out. It was such a good release. Steve was more than a wonder—he was a treasure.

Excerpt & Giveaway! The Mistress And Her Men by Julia Talbot writing as Minerva Howe

The path to love isn’t always a straight line. Sometimes it’s a triangle.

When Simon realizes his dearest friend is in real trouble with gambling, whoring and daredeviling, he hits on the perfect solution: provide Matthias with an outlet for his self-destructive urges. While Simon would be more than willing to take on the task himself, Matthias has always fought their “unnatural” attraction.

As London’s Mistress of Discipline, Felice Grey wears her independent and scandalous reputation with confidence. She’ll take on Matthias for one night as a favor to Simon—even break her own rules to let Simon watch. She never expected that Matthias’s struggle against his feelings for Simon would touch her heart, or that she’d feel drawn to both men. Especially since Simon’s dominant nature makes it unlikely he’ll bend to her will.

Simon, barely surviving the night’s session, withdraws to his country estate in hopes that his two favorite people will find each other. Felice and Matthias must make a decision—let happiness fall by the wayside, or pursue it—and damn the risk.

London 1779 Simon sat in the depths of a smoky gambling hell, his cravat undone, his coat tossed carelessly across a stool near his feet. He knew he presented the very portrait of a debauched noble gambling his night away. That was precisely what he wanted, because he was in the gaming hell as a spy tonight, rather than a full participant.

Tonight he was watching his dear friend Matthias wager away every bit of good fortune the man had ever possessed. Indeed, Simon saw a note that no doubt represented every bit of Matthias’s remaining land in the pile of loot at the center of his table. What Simon really wished to do was to go over to that table and wipe it clean with his arm, dramatically saving Matthias from himself. He knew, however, that his friend would not thank him for it, so instead he would wait until a destitute Matthias left to drown his sorrows in whatever drink he might yet afford. Then he would buy all of those notes back from the winners, whether they wished to sell or not. A roar from Matthias brought Simon’s attention back from his thoughts. Matthias’s gaming table spilled over, notes and coins flying.

“You’re a damned cheat,” Matthias shouted, and in finally seeing Matthias’s opponent’s face, Simon could not but agree. Lord Chalmsley was, indeed, a terrible cheat. He was also armed with a dagger in his sleeve, which snicked into place against Matthias’s breastbone in less than a heartbeat.

“How dare you, sir?” Chalmsley said calmly. “I have beaten you over and over this evening because of your lack of skill, not chicanery.”

“That’s a load of shite.” Matthias pressed against the blade until a red spot appeared on his lawn shirt. “Had you nothing to hide you would not conceal a weapon and use it so readily.”

Chalmsley backed away slowly. “I only protect myself, you insolent bastard.”

“Ah, but I am no more a bastard than you are,” Matthias stated. “Fight me fairly.”

“I did. With the cards.” With a flourish of his blade, Chalmsley bent to pick up the notes before stuffing them into his coat. “Good night, all.” Matthias lunged, only to be held back by a few acquaintances. Not an easy task, considering his stature, his heavy muscles. Simon watched him thusly restrained, and the kernel of an idea took hold in his mind. The image of that bright spot of blood crystalized in Simon’s thoughts.

Good God, his friend had a death wish. Yes, Matthias had a need to castigate himself. To punish himself for his perceived failures in life. How many times had Simon seen Matthias throw the first punch or toss a note in someone’s face? How many times had the man courted danger to his person simply because he didn’t think he was worthy of his life? He wondered why it had taken him so long to realize that he knew of a solution. Oh, God help him, he might just be able to save Matthias from another night such as this, from giving away his land and his life to fulfill some sort of fatalistic desire.

Matthias needed to explore this need for violence, for self-punishment, in a safe place. Would that Simon could become that place, but he knew Matthias would never accept such games from a man, let alone one he considered a close friend. There was someone, though, someone who would give Matthias what he needed.

Simon stood, assuming his jacket before he left the room so that Matthias never saw him. He dropped his own blade into his hand when he approached Chalmsley from behind, then pressed the dagger to the man’s ribs. “I’ll take those notes, my lord,” he said, smiling when Chalmsley stiffened. “I would have bought them, but I do abhor a cheat.”
