Double Review! The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller by L.B. Simmons

Death.

For some, it's simply one of life's certainties, nothing more. For others, it's merely a fleeting thought, one often overshadowed by the reckless delusion that they have been blessed with the gift of immortality.

For Aubrey Miller, death is the definition of her very existence. Overcome with the guilt resulting from the loss of her beloved family, she alters her appearance from the once beautiful, blonde-haired, blue-eyed little girl to that of one shrouded in complete darkness, enveloping herself in her own unbreakable fortress of solitude as a form of protection for others.

As she enters her first year of college, her goal is simple: Earn a degree with the least amount of social interaction as possible. What she never anticipates is the formation of very unlikely relationships with two people who will change her life in ways she never believed possible: Quinn Matthews, the boisterous former pageant queen, and Kaeleb McMadden, a childhood friend from her past who never really let her go.

Over the years, as their connections intertwine and grow, a seemingly indestructible bond is formed between the three...

But when death painfully reemerges, Aubrey is lost once again, burying herself deeper than ever before inside the familiar fortification of her fears.

Will the refuge of friendship, the solidarity of life-long bonds, and the power of unconditional love be enough to do the impossible?

Will they be enough to finally bring about...

Diana's Review

The Ressurection of Aubrey Miller is a book that teaches us that even if we think we’re surrounded by darkness, there is always a span of light showing us the right way.

Aubrey has had a hard life. After she lost her parents and little sister, it became easy for her to think that everyone she loves will eventually leave her because of her simple presence. She keeps people as far as possible.

Everything is about to change when she goes to the University. There she meets Quinn, her roommate, and Kaeleb - the one person she never thought she’ll see again. This friendship is unexpected since she doesn’t want to get attached to anyone. The three of them have a strong connection and soon, Aubrey doesn’t want to be alone anymore.

As the story unfolds, we see how she develops, how she returns to old Aubrey who was once a happy child full of life and dreams, learns how to fall in love and hopes for a better tomorrow. But when a painful loss emerges, it threatens to bring Raven back and cancel Aubrey’s existence forever. Will Kaeleb and Quinn’s support be enough for her?

In the beginning I didn’t know what could possibly make a girl like Aubrey this way. She’s afraid to trust. She has so many insecurities and she isn’t close even to the woman who has taken care of her since she was eight. There were moments when I thought she gave up too easily, but I didn’t know what I would have done being in her place.

Her story isn’t beautiful. It’s tragic how she made her own mind about not allowing others to get too close to her even if, deep down, she loves them.

The other characters made this book even better. There were situations where I found myself laughing, when I stood awake until 3 a.m. to see what will happen next and others when I cried so hard I thought I won’t be able to finish this book.

The story is written beautifully. My only complaint is that it ended, because I became very attached to the characters.

I learned so many lessons from this book. The most important one is to never lose our hope even in our darkest times.

L.B. Simmons did a great job and I can’t wait to read another book written by her!

Mikky's Review

The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller is the story of a girl with an incredibly amount of bad luck. Ever since she was a child she’s suffered one loss after another until she finally started to believe that she herself is the source of misfortune for everyone else.

This is the story of a broken girl who lost herself in guilt and sadness.

The book was captivating. From the very first pages I found myself caught in the story of Raven and her journey from darkness back to light.

The characters are well defined with strong, interesting personalities. There’s a fair amount of humor also and the writing style is great making it easy to keep up with everything that’s happening.

I think you’ll find Aubrey’s story very interesting. All of us, at one point or another felt like giving up, like there was no reason to keep fighting when the result is always the same. I can’t say I blame her for the choices she makes.

Also, this book proves how important it is to surround yourself with people that are capable of lifting you up and keeping you floating whenever you feel like you’re drowning.

The ties between Aubrey, Kaeleb and Quinn are unique and they hold strong through good and bad. What they have is the definition of true and lasting friendship.

Let me tell you what ruined the book for me and made lower the rating. The last 30 % of the book. That was just useless, senseless drama and that could have totally been avoided. At that point I just wanted it to be over so I could move on to something else.

Pity. It managed to ruin an otherwise very interesting book.

I’m not say you shouldn’t read it. It just didn’t worked out for me unfortunately.

Happy reading!
