Review! Breaking Cover, Life Lessons #2 by Kaje Harper

For homicide detective Mac, it's been a good year. Having Tony to go home to makes him a better cop and a better person. For Tony, it's been hard being in love with a man he can't touch in public. Evasions and outright lying to friends and family take a little of the shine off his relationship with Mac, but Tony is determined to make it work.

As the Minneapolis Police Department moves into a hot, humid summer, Mac is faced with a different challenge. A killer has murdered two blond women, and the police have no real clues. Mac hates to think that another murder may be the only way they'll make progress with the case. But when that murder happens, it hits close to home for Tony. And suddenly Mac faces an ultimatum: come out into the sunlight and stand beside Tony as his lover, or walk away and live without a piece of his heart.

Tony and Mac’s story continues in Breaking Cover.

Young women are strangled and stabbed and Mac and his partner are the ones handling the investigation.

He and Tony are going steady but Mac is still hiding and gives no sign that things might change soon. Tony is still supportive but sometimes life just throws a curveball and soon Mac will have to choose between being by his lover’s side or losing him forever.

In this installment we see a more mature Tony. His life changes even more when he finds himself being the foster father of a child who has had too many disappointments in his young life.

What do you do when you have to choose between the man you love more than everything else in the world and a boy who depends on you to keep him safe and take care of him?

Mac has always dreaded the day when Tony will just walk away and he’ll have no other choice but to let him, but he never thought it will be so soon. He’s not ready yet. As much as he wants to be there for Tony he just can’t.

The investigation becomes even more complicated as new details arise and the danger is bigger than everyone realized.

When everything is said and done, out two heroes will find themselves on a new path in life. One they weren’t ready for but now they’ll have to face and do the right thing because two young lives depend on them.

Mac will have to decide if life with Tony, in the open, is worth being the target of mean jokes and spiteful remarks or if it’s better to go on like their relationship never happened.

This series gets more and more interesting with each book. On to the next volume!

Happy Reading!!

I live in Minnesota (where the two seasons are snow removal and road-repair, and the mosquito is the state bird, and where sometimes in winter it is so beautiful you can't breathe for gazing at it). I have been writing for longer than I care to admit, and currently am focused on writing m/m romance. I have an interview from Sept 2012 on Reviews by Jessewave for those who are interested.

My first professionally published book, Life Lessons, came out from MLR Press in May 2011. This was the first thing I had submitted anywhere and I was thrilled when it was accepted. There are now three free short stories, and three more novels in the Life Lessons series.

My free Smashwords book was the first thing that actually released - I put it up a month before Life Lessons just for the fun of getting it out there. Lies and Consequences began as a reaction to the November 2010 election. It looked like the repeal of DADT might be derailed by the political shift and I put the insanity of that law into the book. Then as I was finishing the first draft in mid-December the repeal passed. Which was great, but prompted a rewrite to a lighter and more action/romance book.

And now I have other work in ebooks and print, both free and professionally published. This writing thing is addictive. So read, comment, tell me what you like and what you don't, and help me make the upcoming books even better. I have a blog here on Goodreads, and a website with Wordpress, (http://kajeharper.wordpress.com/ ) which includes a complete book list.
